Chelsea's Summer Wedding Buzz

Lavish summer weddings are nothing new, but when the price tag reaches a rumored $2 million and the guest list includes Hollywood A-listers and heads of state, it’s got all the makings of a blockbuster event.

For weeks, the media buzz over former first daughter Chelsea Clinton and fiancé Marc Mezvinsky’s pending nuptials has reached a near fever pitch. Mezvinsky, a Goldman Sachs banker, has known Clinton since the two were in their teens. Despite attending Stanford at the same time, it wasn’t until after graduation that the couple became serious.

While the Clinton camp has kept most of the details under wraps, most sources believe that the two will tie the knot on July 31 in Rhinebeck, NY, a small town 90 miles north of New York City. According to New York Times White House correspondent Sheryl Gay Stolberg, planning for the ceremony has been so hush-hush, that the couple’s save-the-dates simply instructed guests to be within NYC driving distance and to await further details.

As for the guest list, reports suggest it may include such high profile celebs as Oprah Winfrey, Barbra Streisand, Steven Spielberg and Ted Turner as well as members of the Clinton’s political inner circle. Estimates put the total number of guests between 400 and 500.

If Rhinebeck is indeed the destination du jour, most experts are certain it will take place at the luxurious Astor Courts mansion, a sprawling Beaux-Arts manor from the turn of the twentieth century. Catering will provide an ample mix of vegan (Chelsea is a vegan) and non-vegan dishes, and the wedding cake is reported to be both vegan and gluten-free.

As for the dress, no one knows for sure what the bride will choose, but those who saw Chelsea exiting Manhattan’s Vera Wang store say to look for the acclaimed designer’s signature look on the way down the aisle.
