Your Dose of Summer Color

There are playful colors. There are subtle colors. And then there are shades that fall somewhere in between. Part casual, part glam, these are your go-to hues when your daytime look needs a little extra punch or when you’re trying to bring your nighttime look back down to earth. If you’re looking for the best of both worlds, we’ve got just the ticket.

Perfect Eye Trio DESERT SKY_LR The Desert Sky Perfect Eye Trio is the eye shadow jack-of-all-trades. Featuring three of Pür’s most versatile shades, it walks the line between natural beauty and red carpet drama. With just a hint of shimmer, you can dial in anything from an eye-opening baby doll look to a full-blown smoky eye.

And what’s more, this multitasking three-in-one is the perfect palette for summer. Warm and natural, with earthy, metallic undertones, it complements the season’s carefree attitude and colorful wardrobe with ease. And because it’s so neatly packaged, you’ll be able to create the perfect look—at home or on the go—all in the blink of an eye.

Stayin’ Alive with Ken Jeong

Actor and comedian Ken Jeong made us laugh out loud in The Hangover II and last season’s Community. Here, the funnyman and physician (Google it if you don’t believe us) shows his chops in a wickedly funny video on how to perform hands-only CPR to the beat of Stayin’ Alive.

Bridal Style Tips for Short Hair

When I was in high school, I grew out my hair for my senior year. I wanted a lovely up-do at prom like all the other girls. Not long after graduation, I chopped my locks again and never looked back. My hair is fine and wouldn’t hold a curl if the fate of the entire world depended on it. When my husband proposed to me, I had an adorable, angled bob, and even though I had two years to grow out my hair, the thought never occurred to me. When it was time to start looking into hair styles for the big day, I decided to stick to my spunky short hair. It had become a Prentice trademark.

Short hair may seem like a problem for a bridal look, but in reality, it is super simple (and less expensive than hitting the salon for an intricate 'do or extensions). I over-thought what to do with my hair. Since my Wedding Photos 457-1 short style is an important part of my image, I played with what it naturally does and how I typically like for it to look. Here are a few tips to making long-lasting impressions with short tresses:

Play Up Accessories

There are so many beautiful pieces that brides can wear in their hair, like tiaras, combs, clips, pearls, flowers and feathers. Rather than try to figure out how to make your pixie cut defy physics and look like an up-do from a magazine, get the formal, glamour you desire by adding an accessory to your hair. Veils also look lovely with short hair.

Don’t Grow Too Little Too Late

If you really can’t stand the idea of keeping your short hair for your big day, that’s fine. Just start growing as soon as possible. Remember, hair only grows about half an inch per month, so procrastinating until weeks before your wedding will only result in your current short hairstyle looking overgrown and messy.

Go Red Event Raises over $300,000 with Star Jones

Yesterday, Pür representatives, along with celebrities, business leaders and health advocates helped raise over $300,000 at a Go Red For Women® event in Atlanta’s ultrachic St. Regis Hotel.

Coordinated by JuE Wong, CEO of Pür’s parent company, Astral Brands, the fundraiser was hosted by Emmy Award-winning news anchor Brenda Wood with a keynote address by TV celebrity Star Jones. In her speech, the former View co-host shared how her 2010 open-heart surgery gave her a new lease on life and inspired her to promote women’s heart health. As a contestant on the 2011 season of NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice, Jones played on behalf of the American Heart Association.

According to Wong, contributions from the event will help fund research, awareness and solutions to treat heart disease—the no. 1 killer of women in the United States. “What is even more exciting is the knowledge that we could very possibly accomplish this in our lifetimes through science, health and empowerment programs,” she says.

Wong’s passion for heart health stems from her own story of loss. In September 2009, she lost her husband Bob to a heart attack. Since then, she has championed Go Red in the hope that others might learn from her story and take action before it’s too late.

“No one should have to live with the guilt of reducing their loved one to a memory,” she says, “especially when something is within our power to make a difference.”

How to Get Berry Stained Lips

Shutterstock_1183382 Fun, fresh and flirty, berry stained lips are everything a summer lip look should be. And with Pür’s Petal Pout Lip Gloss Sticks, creating the perfect berry stained pout has never been easier. Here’s how.

First, apply a thin layer of moisturizer or lip balm to prime lips and keep color from fading or bleeding. (We recommend Mineral Lip Revival.) Don’t use too much—just enough to moisten lips—and be sure to wipe off any excess with a tissue.

Next, choose the lip gloss stick that works best with your skin tone. (You can also use Pout Plumping Lip Gloss to create a similar effect.) Starting with your lower lip, lightly dab color over the center; repeat for your upper lip. Then, using your index finger, gently smudge color over lips so that it fades toward the corners of your mouth. The idea is to create a natural-looking pout that appears “stained” in the middle—just as though you enjoyed some sweet summer fruit.

Summer Blues

Shutterstock_2454858 Denim is a durable and comfortable fashion friend to many of us, but our much loved yet underappreciated  jeans will no longer play second fiddle to stunning blouses and tops.  Denim is getting a turn in the spotlight this spring and summer. Blue jeans are a classic must-have for any wardrobe, but on the runway, denim is currently being used for dresses, jumpsuits, jackets, blazers and pretty much any other piece you can imagine. Chunky, box-shapes with simple lines make a great contrast with feminine buttons, shoes and bags. Natural, medium blue denim is what’s hip right now, and lately, dip dyed denim (Denim dipped in a bleach mixture to fade the fabric from blue to white.) is getting popular with designers.

If you have a pair of jeans or an old denim piece that needs a modernized makeover, there’s no need to trash it and buy brand new stuff. Dip dying old pieces can give them a trendy, light look that will tie nicely into summer fashion. Here’s what you’ll need:

Jeans or shorts
Plastic gloves (Safety first!)
A plastic bucket (at least 2 gallons)
A yard stick or a couple rulers
Bleach
Distilled white vinegar

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Mix two parts water to one part bleach in your bucket.
  2. Thread your yard stick/rulers through the belt loops of your jeans.
  3. Dip your denim into the solution to the desired depth, resting the rulers/yard stick on the bucket. Keep in mind the bleach may bleed upwards, so allow an inch of leeway for the effect.
  4. Let the denim sit in the bleach solution for thirty minutes.
  5. Once your denim has reached the white shade you desire (Whiter whites may require more than one dipping session.), remove the fabric and soak them in a mixture of two parts water and one part vinegar to stop the bleaching.
  6. Let your denim air dry completely. Wash and dry your new masterpiece alone for the first two washes.

Beach Bound and Beautiful

Sure, summer doesn’t officially start until June 21, but you wouldn’t know it by the weather (here in Atlanta, we’ve been in the low 90s for the past two weeks). Read: Stories I Only Tell My Friends

Bookcover Celebrity memoirs tend to fall in one of two categories: self-affirming tales of personal triumph or roadmaps to hitting rock bottom. Perhaps that’s why recent tell-all from Hollywood heartthrob Rob Lowe is such a pleasant surprise. Laugh-out-loud funny, Lowe’s self-deprecating anecdotes prove that the former Outsiders and West Wing star is more than just a pretty face.

We all know people that things just seem to happen to. It’s this type of serendipity make Lowe’s stories so jaw dropping—the man is a magnet for pure coincidence. For instance, a 1976 move to Malibu prompted by his mother’s health landed him square in the neighborhood of then-unknowns Sean Penn and Charlie Sheen. At the time, Charlie’s father Martin was working for Francis Ford Coppola on Apocalypse Now. And, by chance, who did Coppola think of for the role of Soda in The Outsiders? You guessed it.

Possibly more surprising than the happenstance series of events is just how well written each story is. Heart wrenching at times and sidesplitting at others, Lowe’s narrative reveals a highly accomplished mind that refuses to take itself seriously. In other words, he’s someone we can all relate to. It’s this combination of empathy and what-are-the-chances dumb luck that makes Stories a must-read this summer.

Let Your Legs do the Talking

IStock_000000530376Medium Trend alert! Why let blouses be the main focus of your outfit? Step aside, plain pantaloons. Busy britches are in! Printed pants are slightly retro but still add a splash of dressiness to a look that would otherwise seem casual with jeans or linen shorts. Zigzag, floral, striped, animal, tie-dye, contemporary and tribal prints are funky, quirky and hip this summer. Be sure to pair your pants with simple tops for contrast, and finish the look with sizzling heels to elongate your legs. Flip flop your tops and bottoms this summer, and let your trousers do the talking.
