Halloween Looks in a Pinch

Shutterstock_2222295The spookiest day of the year is almost here. And if you’ve been putting off planning your Halloween look, never fear. Pür has just the trick for your fright night fete.

Vampy Vixen
Vampires have come a long way since the days of Bram Stoker, and today’s undead damsels are sexier than ever. Whether you’re going as a classic countess or a modern day vixen, you’ll need two things: pale skin and blood-red lips. Using a Powder Brush, sweep Mineral Light over your entire face, layering heavily for a pale complexion. Next, create a ravishing red pout with a layer of Red Ruby lipstick, followed by a coat of I Heart Pür lip gloss. Don’t forget to let a little drip down the corners of your lips.

Cleopatra Chic
Ever since Elizabeth Taylor portrayed the royal Egyptian beauty in 1963, Cleopatra has been a mainstay of popular culture, not to mention a Halloween costume favorite. To capture the desert queen’s signature look, start with her most famous attribute: the classic cat eye. Using Pür Intensity in Carbon and an Eyeliner Brush, trace your lash line from the inner corner of your eye to the outer corner, flicking the line up at the end. Sweep on a healthy dose of Midnight Jade or Blue Lazulite Eye Shadow, and you’re good to go.

One Cool Cat
Cat costumes are a perennial fave, and with minimal effort, are among the easiest looks to create. Like the Cleopatra, you’ll want to start with—no surprise here—the cat eye. Follow the same steps above using Pür Intensity in Carbon and an Eyeliner Brush, and follow with a smoky eye using Pressed Mineral Eye Shadow in either Graphite or Chrome Cryolite. Using the same shadow, color in the tip of your nose and draw ‘whiskers’ out from your cheeks. And because Pür’s mineral powders contain no petroleum-based oils, talc or fillers, you won’t have to worry about breakouts or irritation.

What’s in Your Fall Wardrobe?

Fall is in the air and on the rack in department stores and boutiques across the country. As we gear up for fashion’s arguably most exciting season, one question remains: what’s on your fall wardrobe wish list? Here are few things that caught our eye.

RodarteSolid-on-Sheer
Sure, sheer fabrics may feel more like spring, but we love this season’s pairing of thicker, solid outerwear over gauzier, gossamer apparel. No one combines textures better than Kate and Laura Mulleavy. The brains behind Rodarte, the Mulleavy sisters’ Fall 2011 ready-to-wear collection combines simple, vintage elegance with rich, lacy accents for an undeniably original, sophisticated look. We love their full-length, trench-inspired jacket over embroidered lace dress.

Hey Mr. Mustard
Harvest colors were made for fall, and right now rust and mustard hues are two of the hottest shades to hit the runway. However, not everyone can sport a bold gold. Those with a paler, pink-to-beige complexion can generally mingle better with mustard, while those with darker, golden-bronze tones can rock a rich rust. Be sure to do a little comparison-shopping to find the most flattering harvest hue for you.

Chunky Chokers
Chokers are nothing new, but this season’s “it” trend takes the once-popular accessory to hunky, heavy new heights. Sleek and simple, today’s choker craze focuses on modern, minimalist design with an emphasis on precious metals. Gold, copper and bronze cuffs and collars create the perfect cocktail dress complement. We especially like heavy metal handiwork of Elie Saab and Max Azaria—tres chic!

Start Now! kit a Family Friendly Favorite

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Pür fans are the best! Last week, blogger Heather at Family Friendly Frugality tried our NEW 5-Piece Start Now! Essentials Collection with amazing results. Read her story below:

Start Now Kit

I’ve had bad skin since I was in my early pre-teens. There were times that I stayed home from school because my acne was so painful.

Now that I’m approaching 30, my skin is somewhat better, but plenty of scars still remain. I also still breakout quite often. It’s in different areas now and it’s not quite as painful, but as a 29-year-old woman, it’s still very frustrating.

Typically, my makeup of choice is a thick liquid foundation. Of course there’s plenty of concealer and a good caking of pressed powder on top as well.

I did try a brief stint with mineral make up a few years back, but during my pregnancy with my daughter my skin changed and it just didn’t seem to be compatible with my complexion any longer.

Needless to say, I was a bit hesitant when I received my Pür Minerals 5-Piece NEW Start Now Kit! in the mail. I just wasn’t sure it would work for me.

Not only that, I am a mom, so my time to get ready is very limited.

The first thing I did was put some of the Neutral Primer on my face. It was very light and not greasy feeling at all. I let it dry and then started to sweep on the 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup in a circular motion. I was so surprised at the coverage! I also loved the Chisel Brush that they included in the package. It was nice and soft on my face.

I used a bit of the Mineral Glow as blush and swept the Impact+ Mascara on my eyelids. So pretty!

I love the coverage of this makeup. You wouldn’t think a powder could feel this light, but cover so well. I have tried other mineral makeup, and I honestly think Pür Mineral’s is top notch above the rest!

Hot Rocks a Hit on FitnessMagazine.com

HotRocks_NaturalHealthThree-dimensional beauty is in, and few powdery pebbles bring the heat like Pür’s luminous Hot Rocks. In a recent blog article featured on FitnessMagazine.com, the award-winning multi-pigmented makeup rocks were praised for their brilliant color and total versatility. Here’s the scoop, straight from the fitness guru’s Beauty on the Go blog:

“Not only do these faintly shimmery bronzer, blush, and highlighting powders give cheeks a gorgeous glow when applied with a brush swirled over the multi-tonal pigments, but they can also multitask. We’ve experimented with using individual beads as eye shadow, lip color (topped with gloss or balm), and luminizer on the inner corners of eyes, under the brows, and on the cupid’s bow. They’re just plain fun to use, like makeup should be!”

Split Decision: Two-Toned Metallic Lids

Shutterstock_1392087Shimmery shadows are hot enough on their own, but double up and things really get smoking. For a high drama look that’s twice as nice, make it a split decision.

Prep
For brighter, more vivid eye color (and to keep pesky creases at bay), first prep eyes with a long-wear primer, like Mineral Eye Prep. This lid-perfecting miracle creates a velvety smooth canvas that picks up and intensifies color. As an added bonus, it contains antioxidants that help neutralize discoloration, giving you an even finish.

Start Light
Using an Eye Shadow Brush, sweep a light, neutral shimmer over the inner half of your eyelid. Our Pressed Mineral Eye Shadow in Champagne Citrine is a super-versatile golden beige that works with nearly all skin tones. You can also try Sunlit Gypsum or Gold Marcasite.

Go Dark
Next, sweep a darker shade across the outer half of your lid, lightly overlapping your lighter hue. Blend into your outer crease for added definition. We recommend Blue Lazulite or Chrome Cryolite for an eye-catching, steely blue shimmer.

Line & Define
Complete the look with a strong, well-defined lash line. Using Pür Intensity gel eyeliner in Carbon, trace a razor-thin line across your upper lash line from inner to outer corner. Finish with two to three coats of Impact+ Mascara to your upper lids.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Pink_ribbon Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States and the second leading cause of female cancer death. The American Cancer Society (ACS) expects 230,480 women will be diagnosed this year alone. However, for those cases detected early enough, there’s encouraging news—the disease is highly treatable, with over 2.5 million survivors living in the United States today. That’s why we at Pür Minerals urge you to get checked and get active in the fight against this malicious disease.

Get Checked
While regular self-checking is always encouraged, it’s no substitute for clinical screening, which can detect the disease in its earliest (and most treatable) state. In addition the month’s numerous charity and awareness events, October is also host to National Mammography Day. On the third Friday of the month (October 21 for 2011), radiologists often provide free or discounted mammograms.

Get Active
We all know someone who has been touched by this vicious disease, whether personally or through friends and acquaintances. While there is no known cure for breast cancer, scientific breakthroughs in diagnosis and treatment give hope that one day soon there will be. With so many opportunities to make a difference, there has never been a better time to get active in the fight for a cure.
