Fresh Spring Trends - #2 Neons & Tangerines

NanetteLaporeSome time ago, we ran a story on Pantone’s 2012 color of the year: Tangerine Tango. Now, we get to see this vivid, vivacious shade in action—everywhere from blouses and blazers to skirts and shoes. While not quite a neon shade itself, it pairs wonderfully with that other hot spring trend, as seen in this electric combo from Nanette Lapore. Just be sure you keep your makeup safely toned down to keep from overdoing it.

Oscar’s Best & Worst Dressed

Shutterstock_3151462Old Hollywood glamour was the theme du jour at last night’s 84th Academy Awards ceremony. Maybe it was the buzz around The Artist—the silent film redux that took home five awards, including Best Picture—that inspired the classic revival, but whatever the cause, the result was stunning. Here’s a brief look at who stole the pre-show scene and who came up short on the red carpet.

Best Dressed
With a theme like Gilded Age glam, you know you’ve got to bring your A-game. In terms of vintage elegance, no one topped award presenter Penelope Cruz. Her off-shoulder cerulean gown by Armani Prive harkened back to a bygone era of elegance. Right behind her, The Help nominee Jessica Chastain dazzled in an art nouveau-inspired black-and-gold gown by Alexander McQueen.

Worst Dressed
Mercifully, this year’s ceremony was spared the more heinous fashion disasters of Oscar’s past. However, there were a few questionable wardrobe choices that gave us pause. Bridesmaids star Kristin Wigg was one such case. Bloggers at Moviefone ripped her ruffled J. Mendel gown, calling it “feather duster chic.” She was joined by fellow castmate Melissa Mccarthy, whose billowy mauve Marina Rinaldi number made the comic actress look washed out.

Fresh Spring Trends - #1 Peplum

Jason-WuThis spring, designers couldn’t get enough flare (and no, we’re not talking about the type that drove Jennifer Aniston over the edge in Office Space). From Armani to Yves Saint Laurent, hips were shaking down the runway in arguably one of this season’s coolest fashion revivals: the peplum. We love this vintage inspired, two-toned number from Jason Wu with super skinny black waistband. It’s Mad Men meets Beverly Hills.

Give Your Eyes a Wakeup Call

WakeUpCallWe’ve all had them: late nights that turn into tired days that feel way too long. And while you might trick your body with coffee, your eyes will always give you away—until now. Get ready to put dark circles and bags to bed with Pür Minerals’ newest eye sensation: Wakeup Call Depuffing Eye Pen.

Everyone reacts differently to fewer Z’s. Some wake up to under eye shadows; others to puffy peepers. Fortunately, Wakeup Call is made to address both. As caffeine invigorates tired-looking skin, horse chestnut fights the appearance of dark circles and puffiness. Plus, it’s infused with intensive hydration to plump away the look of fine lines and crow’s feet, making it a powerful age-defying tool.

Best of all, its pocket-sized rollerball applicator makes it a breeze to use at home or on the go. Simply roll from the inner corner to the outer corner of your eyes to smooth away unsightly dark circles, bags and stubborn signs of aging. Isn’t it time your eyes had a Wakeup Call?

Last-Minute V-Day Gifts for Him

Shutterstock_2993612It’s hard to believe that Valentine’s Day is—gulp—tomorrow. Admit it—sometimes we procrastinate when shopping for that special someone (no matter how many flower ads and candygrams remind us what time it is). Life is busy, and we don’t always have the time to search for that jaw-dropping gift. Fear not, last-minute shoppers. This is the digital age, where no one has to settle for the scraps of Valentine’s Day eve.

For the Reader
Every guy has his favorite reads. And whether he’s a car buff, music lover or outdoor enthusiast, odds are there’s a magazine right for him. Best of all, most can be ordered online in a matter of seconds. Want to give him something more than an email confirmation? Swing by the bookstore on the way home for his first edition.

For the Shopper
I know—gift cards can sometimes feel a little…impersonal. But the right gift card (i.e. one to a place you know he likes) tells him that you know his style and respect his tastes. And with multi-card kiosks available in more and more supermarkets, you can get your V-Day gift and card in one fell swoop.

For the Adventurer
Often the best gift is the time spent doing something new together. Whether it’s horseback riding, wine tasting or whitewater rafting, sharing an activity outside of your usual routine will not only warm his heart but can also breathe new life into your relationship.
