Pür Goes All Out for Wear Red Day

It’s no secret that we’re big on heart health here at Pür Minerals. So when everyone at our Atlanta office heard that today was National Wear Red Day, let’s just say we really took it to ‘heart.’ From heart-shaped headbands to red feather boas to freshly dyed auburn locks (that's right), everyone showed their spirit for a cause close to all our hearts.

Meet Atlanta’s Beauty Queen: Pür CEO JuE Wong

JuEprofile
We love it when members of the Pür team make news. So when we heard that our hometown magazine The Atlantan wanted to profile CEO JuE Wong, we were thrilled. Add that she was named Beauty Queen in their “Best of Beauty” section, and we could barely keep our seats. Here’s what Atlanta’s premiere lifestyle magazine had to say about our beloved leader and chief:

“Poised to set a whole new standard for the beauty biz, Wong has overseen the upgrading of packaging, along with an improved clinical makeup formula that improves the skin.”

In addition to her “creative vision and sense of social responsibility”, The Atlantan also praised Wong’s unwavering commitment to the environment.

“We have deliberately minimized our carbon footprint,” she told the magazine in an interview. “We save up to 2,000 trees a year now.”

On behalf of everyone at Pür, we’re proud of you, JuE!

Golden Globe’s Best and Worst Dressed

IStock_000000067375MediumThe stars were shining last night, as the 69th Golden Globe Awards honored film and television’s best and brightest. And while the ceremony itself was fairly tame (barring the odd expletive from bad boy host Ricky Gervais), the red carpet run-up was anything but. Long considered the dress rehearsal for the Oscars, the Globes are where A-listers show off their more adventuresome—and questionable—tastes, and last night was no exception. Here’s your Golden Globe style sum-up—from the most stunning standouts to our favorite five-star fashion disasters.

The Good
The best of the best goes to Angelina Jolie, whose satin Atelier Versace gown harkened to Hollywood’s Golden Age. A splash of scarlet gave the ivory white number a pop of color which the actress perfectly paired in her lip color. Add the best accessory of all (Brad Pitt), and we have a winner.

The Bad
Alright, while maybe not a fashion catastrophe, Lea Michele’s chrome-treated Marchesa gown definitely flirted with disaster.  The shiny, see-through piece looked like Britney Spears’ Toxic outfit met a Bedazzler. And with so much exposed, it’s lucky the Glee star didn’t suffer a costume malfunction.

The Unspeakable
“Dip dying” may sound more elegant than “tie-dying,” but it doesn’t erase its long and embarrassing history as the color choice of camp leaders and hippies worldwide. That didn’t stop Sarah Michele Gellar, however, from gracing the red carpet in a Smurf-blue gown that resembled a painter’s drop cloth.

Would You Wear this Color?

H&MdressToday, Pantone, fashion and design’s benchmark for color standards, revealed 2012’s color of the year: Tangerine Tango. Described as a “spirited reddish orange,” the vibrant shade predicts a wardrobe that’s warm, energetic and full of life. Bold but not over-the-top, Tangerine Tango is a boon for designers for its versatility. Working on hints of next year’s “it” color, many have already started incorporating the vivacious hue into their upcoming lines, including J. Crew and H&M (shown: short brocade dress, $49 at H&M). Many hope the uplifting shade will impart a sense of optimism in the year to come. At the very least, it’s sure to brighten up your look.

Tell us what you think. Will Tangerine Tango be in your 2012 wardrobe?

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Airs Tonight

Shutterstock_2475266The Angels are back! The annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show airs tonight at 10 p.m. on CBS. Since its inception in 1995, the star-studded event has become a holiday tradition, as synonymous with the season as Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade or Black Friday, albeit, not without its share of controversy. Despite being criticized for commercialism and suggestive content, the program drew 9 million viewers last year alone and included performers Akon and Katy Perry, plus supermodel Adriana Lima in the $2 million Bombshell Fantasy Bra.

This year, the lingerie supershow ups the ante with the $2.5 million Fantasy Treasure Bra—an aqua push-up studded with over 3,000 precious stones, including white and yellow diamonds and pearls—as seen on Australian model Miranda Kerr. Guest performers will include Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5 and Kanye West, who will perform a song with Jay-Z off their “Watch the Throne” album.

Will you be watching the 2011 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show? Let us know.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Pink_ribbon Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States and the second leading cause of female cancer death. The American Cancer Society (ACS) expects 230,480 women will be diagnosed this year alone. However, for those cases detected early enough, there’s encouraging news—the disease is highly treatable, with over 2.5 million survivors living in the United States today. That’s why we at Pür Minerals urge you to get checked and get active in the fight against this malicious disease.

Get Checked
While regular self-checking is always encouraged, it’s no substitute for clinical screening, which can detect the disease in its earliest (and most treatable) state. In addition the month’s numerous charity and awareness events, October is also host to National Mammography Day. On the third Friday of the month (October 21 for 2011), radiologists often provide free or discounted mammograms.

Get Active
We all know someone who has been touched by this vicious disease, whether personally or through friends and acquaintances. While there is no known cure for breast cancer, scientific breakthroughs in diagnosis and treatment give hope that one day soon there will be. With so many opportunities to make a difference, there has never been a better time to get active in the fight for a cure.

Pür's Annie Gunther on Path to Miss Georgia Teen

Annie_Crown
We love it when we see members of the Pür family succeed. So when we heard that Annie Gunther, our youngest model, won the title of Teen Miss North Georgia State Fair 2012, we were thrilled. Annie, whose work can be seen throughout our website as well as in Dillard’s and ULTA stores, helped bring beauty—pür and simple to a whole new generation. In addition to modeling, Annie also interned with us over the summer, trading her natural creativity for invaluable insight into the beauty industry.

With her state fair win, Annie secured her bid for Miss Georgia Teen. The most prestigious title in the state, the competition brings together Georgia’s leading teen pageant contenders. From everyone on the Pür Minerals team, our hopes are with you, Annie. Good luck!
